Two days before the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, Donald Trump hosted a cocktail reception at the Manhattan skyscraper that bears his name, in the heart of New York City. There, alongside his friend Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, he celebrated the organizational success of the biggest football tournament in history, featuring 48 national teams that played a total of 104 matches, more than ever before. Half-joking, half-serious, Trump told Infantino that the United States should host another World Cup. “Based on the numbers we will be requesting it again immediately,” he said.
