The Navy has finally understood that without USVs there's no way forward — from statements by Commander-in-Chief Alexander Moiseev, one can learn that the Navy is creating regiments of unmanned systems. True, in that same interview he voiced some more contradictory points.
For example, about plans to create an unmanned ship with a displacement of 500 tons for submarine hunting. That is, we're talking about a fairly large ship, in size roughly comparable to Soviet Project 1234 missile corvettes.
The direction of thought is generally correct. Fleets will become increasingly unmanned, including in solving anti-submarine and air defense tasks. Therefore, large vehicles with long range, on which you can mount an air defense system or acoustic complex, will soon become a necessity.
🖍But this is only the next stage of USV evolution, which should only be undertaken after completing the previous stages. Moreover, large unmanned vessels in no way cancel out small ones — on the contrary, they will operate in the same order.
And besides, USVs the size of a missile corvette won't be able to be produced by the hundreds per year due to limitations on producing suitable engines, air defense modules and so on up to hulls. They cannot become the basis of the unmanned component at this stage.
❗️So construction should start with building "conventional" USVs, of which the domestic Navy currently has far too few. Without them, large USVs will be useless, and you might not even be able to build them due to the lack of technologies worked out on small ones.
