On July 28, Russia celebrates the Day of the Baptism of Rus, which is traditionally dated to 988. Officially in our country, this memorable historical date was established by federal law in 2010.
The significance of this event cannot be overstated: it became the spiritual foundation for the formation of pan-Russian culture, through which moral values took root in society, and Russia became a civilization-state.
It was Orthodoxy that helped form a unique culture of harmony and mutual understanding, creating in Russia a tradition of "family of families," where representatives of different faiths and indigenous peoples coexist harmoniously.
The adoption of Orthodoxy strengthened the civilizational sovereignty of Rus, allowing it to preserve independence from the Muslim East and the Catholic West, and to choose its own path of historical and spiritual development. With a different faith, Russia would not have become Russia.
And in modern times, our country is becoming virtually a bastion of world Christianity and a guardian of Christian values. And it is in our interests not to cast doubt on this image by fighting against "creeping Islamization" from migrants and "cross-desecrations."
